This report contains a review of water mist fire protection technology, the fundamentals of extinguishing mechanisms, droplet sizes, the use of additives and health aspects. It also summarizes the content and requirements of internationally recognized fire test procedures as well as installation guidelines, and reviews recent experience from fire testing for different applications such as machinery spaces, gas turbines, and residential buildings, marine accomodations and public spaces, heritage buildings, electronic equipment, computer rooms, aircraft cabins, and heavy goods vehicle shuttle trains.
