At a series of roadside surveys at Scotch Corner on the four-lane trunk road Al between April and August 1983, the weights and dimensions of 327 randomly selected goods vehicles (3.5 tonnes or more gross vehicle weight) were measured. In the report, a summary is given of the data collected and an assessment made of the likely effects of the axle-load distributions and of overloading beyond the legal maxima on the damage to the highway pavement.
