A series of tests was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of buoy inflation with solid propellant rocket exhaust gases which are cooled by the injection of liquid carbon dioxide into the hot gas stream. The small scale gas generator system was first evaluated in the preliminary bench tests in order to perform a system check-out prior to the series of underwater tests to be carried out at a depth of 400 feet. Secondary objectives were to adjust the flow areas to obtain optimum performance and demonstrate reliability and repeatibility of the system. (Author)
