Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies offer a clear opportunity to improve transportation safety, relieve congestion, and enhance productivity. This report is a continuation of a series of report providing a synthesis of the information collected by the United States Department of Transportation's ITS Joint Program Office on the impact that ITS projects have on the operation of the surface transportation network and the costs of ITS deployment and operations. New in the 2005 report is the inclusion of summaries of lessons learned from ITS planning, deployment, operations, and evaluation experience.
