A high speed passenger rail service between Washington and Boston was called for in the Regional Rail Reorganization Act of 1973. Planning for the service has been conducted by the Office of Northeast Corridor Development in the Federal Railroad Administration. Engineering studies were undertaken to develop detailed plans and costs for the required facilities improvements. This report examines train resistance, train performance, train energy consumption, and arena energy use characteristics.
