The authors, GDR correspondents, describe the air defense system around Vinh harbor on the Song Lam River. The city is a major transshipment port on the Gulf of Tongking, sending shipments to Hong Gai, Haiphong, and Lach Truong. The city also has oil refineries and a power station built with Russian aid. One of the largest ships is the Thong-nhet, which was built in the GDR and is now captained by Le Ngoc Liem. The vessel is armed against air attack. A network of antiaircraft guns surround the harbor. A member of the port air defense forces tells how American aircraft usually approach the port through an opening in the surrounding mountain range, the Hong Ling mountains, which leads directly into massed antiaircraft fire. The Americans, the author writes, were forced to change their course as a result of the fire and were unable to hit their industrial targets. The article includes three photos of air defense forces.
