Unmanned ground vehicles have long been envisioned in battlefield support roles involving reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition, and NBC and mine detection. Appropriate utilization of robotic vehicles for these tasks can be an effective force multiplier and an enhancement to soldier survivability. Over the past six years there has been substantial progress in the development of prototype unmanned ground vehicles for use by the Army and the Marine Corps. This paper looks at several versions of tactical unmanned ground vehicles and discusses technical issues with respect to remote platforms, mission modules and control units.... Unmanned ground vehicle, Teleoperated vehicle (TOV), Telerobotics, Surrogate teleoperated vehicle (STV).
