The objective of this project was to formulate the design methods and the construction and maintenance procedures for a subsurface road drainage system. An assessment of the state-of-the-art is presented along with a description of laboratory efforts to identify optimal materials for pavement drainage layers. Non-stabilized open-graded and bituminous-stabilized open-graded materials were developed.
