This article examines the need for an aircraft to replace the C-7 Caribou, which was recently retired from the inventory. In concluding that a new small cargo aircraft is needed, the author suggests three missions which would be served by this fleet. The new aircraft would provide flexibility to the current tactical airlift force, support the strategic airlift fleet, and satisfy the requirement for a European Distribution system aircraft. The article concludes with the author's exhortation of logisticians and airlifters to join in designing a single fleet to satisfy these missions. (Author)
