A preliminary high level design for a distributed sensor network capable of detection and tracking of low flying aircraft and cruise missiles is being prepared. Progress in this activity is reported in this paper. The design incorporates small radar and acoustic array sensors and makes use of packet radio as the basic communication mechanism. The design is for a system which might be developed and demonstrated by the mid 1980s.
