The project involved the development of a shipboard Vessel Performance Management System (VPMS). The purpose of the system is to collect and process key vessel/engine performance data, with the goals of reducing fuel costs and standardizing consumption reporting procedures. The system is useful for investigating hull/propeller condition and engine operating performance. It uses prestored operating profiles developed on the basis of design data, acceptance trials results, charter warrantees, or engine shop tests. These prestored profiles are automatically compared to actual operating data and performance trends are presented through color graphic computer displays.
