The Washington metropolitan area Urban Corridor Demonstration Program seeks to improve peak period travel conditions through traffic flow improvements, free fringe parking to reduce driving, and better bus service. Recommendations of the study include: construction of a bus terminal transfer point, redesign of D.C. bus service to maximize use of the terminal, creation of an exclusive busway to the South Capitol Street Bridge, more fringe parking facilities in Maryland, and signing and signaling improvements to speed traffic.
