The United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) established CAORF (Computer Aided Operations Research Facility) at Kings Point, NY, in 1976 and has operated the facility since that time. CAORF has played a significant role in promoting the use of simulators, in particular, computer-aided simulators in the marine field. The purpose of the report is to outline an approach for the use of marine simulators, such as CAORF, to simulate ice conditions and ship transits through ice.
