The report presents a narrative summary and evaluations of existing and proposed offshore airports and related construction. Four primary construction methods - dike and polder, fill, pile and floating - are discussed. Airport planning considerations are treated, with particular emphasis on factors peculiar to the offshore airport. Ranges of unit costs for construction of an offshore site, by the various construction methods, are compared. Area requirements, by function, for a typical offshore airport are described. Methods of access are discussed, as well as unit costs for various access systems. (Author)
