The purpose of this research is to compare and contrast the use and employment of offensive Air Support assets during United Task Force Somalia (UNITAF) and United Nations Somalia (UNOSOM 2). The research includes analysis of UNITAF aviation operations in support of the Joint Task Force Commander and of UNOSOM 2 Aviation operations. It includes two Mini-Case studies: one employing Offensive Air Support and another where it was not. The research includes available command and control measures and a brief analysis and explanation of existing command relationships.
