The proceedings of the 1985 National Conference on Highway-Rail Safety is a collection of 28 formal papers presented by nationally known highway and rail safety specialists during a two and one-half day conference held in Kansas City, Missouri in July of 1985. Papers authored by the U.S. DOT Secretary of Transportation, the Chairman of the NTSB and officials of other governmental and private organizations describe programs designed to reduce highway-rail grade crossing accidents. Technical papers related to warning device installation and maintenance, engineering design, driver response, research and technology, education, and accident prevention were prepared by nationally recognized authorities on each of these subjects. The proceedings constitute a current highway-rail grade crossing safety reference document for traffic engineers, lawyers, city managers, county officials, safety specialists, and safety education directors.
