The course covers legal foundations and interpretations of maritime jurisdiction and application, including functions of the U.S. Coast Guard. Longshoring industry section covers vessel and equipment nomenclature, equipment use and gear certification procedures. Shipyard section covers vessel repair, construction shipbreaking, workplace environment, and the duties of the Shipyard Competent Person. Maritime operations and processes are given extensive coverage, along with associated hazards and applicable standards.
