The lubricant residues from two satellite antenna despin bearings, tested under simulated space conditions were examined by micro infrared and gas chromatography. It was shown that the major acid in the grease thickening agent (12 hydroxy stearic acid) is lost during running. Evidence was presented which links the loss of this acid to the low pressure running conditions of the test. (Author)
