The Institut fur Physik der Atmosphare investigates problems of environmental conditions for aircraft, flying bodies and rockets, as far as moving within the earth's atmosphere. Main subjects of research are problems of physical meteorology, the energy balance of the atmosphere, the investigation of the incoming and outgoing radiation as well as the investigation of the herewith connected problems concerning measuring technique. The Institut fur Raumsimulation runs laboratories for carrying out tests under the environmental conditions of outer space. Besides of general problems of aerospace medicine and biology, the Institut fur Flugmedizin studies problems of aerospace physiology and physiology of effort, of mechanical altitude effects and Caisson research, problems of stay under high pressure with different gas mixtures, of the physiological chemistry and aerospace psychology.
