This report presents a discussion of the application of an electromechanical type actuator to the SAM-D missile. An actuator was not designed, but the preliminary design parameters and component sizes were estimated. The basic conclusion is that a conventional electromechanical actuator using magnetic particle clutches will not fit into the available volume on the SAM-D vehicle. (Author)
