The presentations and background material in this volume were a part of the Plenary Session conducted on the first day of the workshop. They were meant to provide a detailed understanding or the status and needs of ADM from both operational and research perspectives. Problem areas identified by the workshop participants which defined the need for basic research included: Can we define what constitutes a good decision. Can we identify different decision nodes during a flight. What do we want to train. How do we want to train. This volume presents the participants perspectives on the behavioral psychology and human factors work that has been done in these areas as well as in the area of new decision making models and concepts.
