The basic purpose of the structural demonstration is to verify that the airplane can be safely operated by Navy pilots during trials to limits consistent with the contract design limits for the airplane. In a broader sense, the structural demonstration provides the Navy with proof that the airplane is structurally capable of performing maneuvers which might be required in fleet use to perform its mission under the most severe conditions. Maneuvers, rate of control displacement, configurations, etc., should be representative of the most critical operational conditions. (Author)
