The system integrates physiological tolerance and thermal comfort in terms of permissible duration of exposure, and reduces the environmental basis of reference to two parameters: temperature, and vapor pressure. The thermal standards were formulated specifically for men having the general physical fitness characteristic of Air Force personnel, and performing the duties of a pilot. (Author)
