The objectives and mission of the Meteosat satellite are summarized. Meteosat is a meteorological space program under direction of ESRO. It forms part of the worldwide meteorological data acquisition, data processing, and data transmission system. The Meteosat is a geostationary satellite with special ground stations for traffic with the satellite and for data preparation, and should be operational before the end of 1976. Development costs are estimated at 400 million DM. (Author)
