Using a reference frame fixed in space, an optimal control solution for minimum-time target interception in a horizontal plane is derived. By integrating the complete adjoint system analytically, the optimal controls for the interceptor can be found in terms of the current state and the terminal state. The presented geometric interpretation of the control solution allows significant insight into the solution behavior. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the characteristic features of the solution behavior.
