The Omnidirectional Low Probability of Intercept (OLPI) was developed for the detection of hovering helicopters. The systems concept of the different components (emitter, receiver, signal coding, signal processing) is outlined. The detection range of the OLPI radar is on the order of 10 km. The applicability of the radar concept is demonstrated. Besides helicopter detection, it allows the determination of the rotor period for a classification.
