Overall motor vehicle crashworthiness concepts and operational definitions developed in this report are used to define research programs for effective improvement of the ability of vehicle structures to safeguard their passengers during crashes. The research programs encompass statistical, quantitative, and theoretical research areas associated with crashworthiness-related evaluations including crash statistics, biodynamics, controlled experiments, prototype development, advanced methods and models, and new technology.
