This report presents 29 standard format case studies of short-range transportation improvement projects which have been tested under the UMTA Service and Methods Demonstration Program. A companion to the report Short-Range Public Transportation Improvements, this document presents more detail about various techniques to improve transit's performance in three roles: high density home to work travel, special user group travel, and general purpose travel; as well as automobile management and pricing approaches. The report also includes material on the costs and cost-effectiveness of each of the case study applications described. The report should be especially useful to those planning public transportation services in large cities, their suburbs, and medium size communities.
