The project proposes construction of a 10 mile segment of U.S. Highway 40 from 5 miles west of Steamboat Springs, to a point just beyond the junction of U.S. Highway 40 and S. H. 131, 5 miles east of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The construction of this segment of U.S. Highway 40 will result in temporary destruction of vegetation within right-of-way; increased dust, noise, congestion and inconvenience during construction; temporary disruption of local traffic patterns; require two or more relocations; acquisition of new right-of-way; affect the water quality of water courses in the area; affect economic activity in the area; temporary damage to aesthetics in the area; improve transportation corridor and provide safer facility for the highway user; and require acquisition of some Section 4(f) parkland.
