The paper describes the results of studies on earthquake-proof reinforcement of railway tunnels as follows: (I) The earthquake-proof effects of reinforcement with rock bolts were determined by model experiments; (II) In Okitsu Tunnel on Shrinkansen experimental execution of rock bolt reinforcement was carried out to know the problems in the work on the site; (III) The earthquake-proofnesses of existing tunnels were estimated and countermeasures were recommended.
