In the year 2002 a research project as conducted in the city of Tonsberg. The aim of the study was to examine whether the use of a set of relatively simple tests of vision and cognitive functioning could identify elderly drivers with reduced ability to drive safely in traffic. The results from the study conducted in 2002 showed that four tests of vision and cognitive functioning predicted driving performance of elderly drivers relatively well. The same study was carried out in the city of Oslo in the year 2005. In the study conducted in 2005, the different tests of vision and cognitive functioning were either weakly related or not related at all to driving performance. The results indicate that the use of these tests is not sufficient in order to determine whether a driver has reduced ability to drive safely in traffic.
