Field tests of electric vehicles have been performed by the Swedish State Power Board since 1980. The experiences have shown the battery properties to be a problem area. A test of lead-acid batteries of different brands have therefore been performed at an independent testing institute in Denmark. Properties of special interest to vehicle applications have been tested, like the capacity under varying conditions, lifetime and mechanical strength. A theoretical battery model was worked out, that can serve for investigating the suitability of lead-acid batteries for electric vehicles. (ERA citation 13:014779)
