As part of a regular series of studies of airport capacity, aircraft arrivals at Heathrow Airport during two weeks in July 1984 were studied. This exercise had three objectives: to monitor and update the arrival runway capacity; to evaluate the runway exit taxiways, their influence on the occupancy of the runway and the potential for improving the arrival runway capacity; and by the provision of improved exit taxiways; to investigate means of automating the data collection for capacity assessment.
