A method for acquiring data in order to validate computer predictions of radial profiles of rms density fluctuations is presented. The three beam laser cross correlation technique was used to measure radial profiles of rms density fluctuation in a liquid fuelled rocket motor. The measured values are in close agreement with computer predicted profiles. A detailed error analysis is presented which indicates that fundamental limitations on the accuracy of the technique are set by practical motor burn times and the power spectrum of the fluctuating density field.
