The report summarizes 15 papers concerned with aspects of transportation planning including road investments to support oil and gas production and distribution; a new approach in community-based transportation planning; transportation-induced agglomeration effects and productivity; potential high-speed rail routes from a megaregion perspective; and the role of metropolitan planning organizations in transportation planning for megaregions. Papers in this issue of TRR also address factors influencing walking in a small urban region; planning the secondary road network for low-speed vehicles; an alternative planning tool for a small metropolitan planning organization; practices to encourage bicycling and pedestrians on federal lands; community engagement in transportation planning; role of social media in the environmental review process; adjusting Institution of Transportation Engineers trip generation rates in urban contexts; smart growth trip generation methodologies; relationships among opportunity-based accessibility, reported land values, and resident characteristics; and teaching transportation planning with board games.
