Results of a series of urban freeway surveillance studies conducted in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas are presented as indications of existing service levels. Aerial mosaics as well as traffic counts and capacities of Interstate 70 in St. Louis and Kansas City and Route 40 in St. Louis are used to present topographic and geometric characteristics of the study sections as well as analyses of current traffic volumes and trends, vehicular densities, and levels of service. Deficiencies ascertained by the study are presented with recommendations for their correction. (Author)
