The Polar Platform is a very large spacecraft, compared to the existing European observation satellites, and is designed to support a great number of payloads. Although these dynamic characteristics lead to some new problems for the AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control System), the proposed concept for the subsystem uses a lot of existing principles, modes and hardware units developed for the SPOT 4 and Helios program. The main hardware modifications concern the actuators capacity and the design of the solar array drive mechanism.
