The project involves construction of a Marine Resource Facility in New Hanover County, North Carolina. Facilities will include a single building of 32,000 square feet, secondary treatment sewage facility, and parking areas with a capacity of 80 cars with planned expansion to 200 car capacity on a 25-acre site. Summary of environmental impact and adverse environmental effects - Provide educational resources for local communities and general public; carry out marine extension program; provide research facilities for visiting students and other personnel; increase visitation to area during winter months; provide jobs and income for local labor market and trade establishments; restrict vehicular traffic over dune areas and instigate dune stabilization program; remove natural existing vegetation at construction site; increase eutrophic conditions in the lower Cape Fear River; increase traffic congestion and air pollution in the immediate area and along nearby public roads.
