The report presents a group of nomograph charts which can be used to screen various paratransit options for providing community service: balancing the cost of implementing and operating services and the quality of service in an area, and selecting an option or options which provide the balance. The report establishes guidelines for the use of the nomographs in screening paratransit and other service options. Options covered include fixed-route bus, one-way looped bus, fixed-route jitney, point deviation, doorstep-route deviation, doorstep subscription, doorstep many-to-one, doorstep many-to-many. Users specify five key parameters: community size in square miles, bus running speed, expected trip density in trips per square mile per hour, expected trip composition (percent feeder and distribution), and desired service quality. The expected fleet size and operating characteristics can then be determined.
