The proposed highway improvement consists of relocating US 17 to bypass the town of Edenton. The proposed design is of a high type and consists of stage construction to an ultimate four-lane freeway. The proposed project will provide a positive impact in constructing a needed bypass of the congested and urbanized area of Edenton. The overall more efficient transportation system will result in less noise and air pollution. The proposed improvement will also improve drainage conditions in the area. There are no significant negative environmental effects anticipated to be created or caused by the proposed project. There are undesirable features which relate specifically to the right of way acquisition and construction stages which will require careful attention.
