This report contains the Fiscal Years 1997-2008 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) forecasts of aviation activity at FAA facilities. These include airports with both FAA and contract control towers, air route traffic control centers, and flight service stations. Detailed forecasts were developed for the major users of the National Aviation System: air carriers, air taxi/commuters, general aviation, and military. The forecasts have been prepared to meet the budget and planning needs of the constituent units of the FAA and to provide information which can be used by State and local authorities, the aviation industry, and the general public. The outlook for the 12-year forecast period is for moderate economic growth, declining real fuel prices, and modest inflation. Bases on these assumptions, aviation activity is forecast to increase by 17.0 percent at the combined FAA and contract towered airports (443 in 1996) and 24.6 percent at air route traffic control centers. The general aviation active fleet is forecast to increase by almost 8.4 percent while general aviation hours flown grow by almost 12.9 percent. U.S. scheduled domestic passenger enplanements are forecast to increase 61.3 percent--air carriers increasing 58.0 percent and regional/commuters growing by 85.9 percent. Total international passenger traffic between the United States and the rest of the world is projected to increase 93.7 percent. International passenger traffic carried on U.S. flag carriers is forecast to increase 95.8 percent.
