The report describes U.S.-Canada trade in the western region of the United States and Canada. This is one of several regional studies evaluating trade and transportation in various border regions of North America. Similar studies have been undertaken of the eastern U.S.-Canada border region, U.S.-Mexico border region, and Gulf region. These evaluations are required under Section 6015 of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act ('ISTEA'), otherwise known as the U.S. Transportation Act of 1991. (P.L. 102-240).
