Research involving experiments flown on balloons, aircraft, rockets, and satellites, as well as ground-based observations of such vehicles, undertaken by scientists since January 1976, is summarized. Projects include: Ariel 5, X-ray satellite launched Oct. 15, 1974, for which data from the Leicester University survey instrument are available in the form of a source catalog; Skylark 12 rocket launched from Andoya, simultaneously with a smaller Fulmar, for the study of the aurora; preparation of Ariel 6, devoted to cosmic ray and X-ray studies, expected launch in 1978; collaboration with NASA and ESA in the construction of the International Ultraviolet Explorer satellite and with the Netherlands and NASA in the infrared satellite project.
