The critical requirements of advanced avionic system design are overall system requirements, configuration item requirements, interface requirements, and design process management requirements. These requirements can be met through the design processs of abstract requirements definition, requirements/functional decomposition, functional recomposition, and detailed interface definition. This process can be greatly aided by computer automation, resulting in the design of more complex avionics systems in far less time than would be possible using older tools.
