The present invention relates to ship mooring systems, and more particularly to a non-hazardous ship mooring system using a high strength modulus fiber--such as KEVLAR--as a mooring line. The fiber is woven in the form of a rectilinear strap having a width and thickness which assures that lateral forces will not exceed the lateral strength modulus of the fiber while providing a line having exceptional longitudinal strength. The winch for the line has a slip brake set for 50% of the maximum load capability of the line to allow the line to slip rather than strain to the breaking point.
