The proposed specification defines the composition of an avionics system and the two major cooling provision categories. It establishes the requirements for each of the major phases of the technical development process, proper contractor coordination, design analyses, testing and evaluation, data, data presentation and reporting. It also covers the implementation of the specification for the various NAVAIRSYSCOM procurement situations such as one prime contractor, two prime contractors and the use of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE). It is concluded that the proposed specification provides thermal design procedures for avionic systems which will provide the required reliability and minimum penalty to the overall aircraft.
