This Heavy Truck Rollover Characterization Program is a major research effort conducted by the National Transportation Research Center, Inc. (NTRCI) in partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Michelin Americas Research Company (MARC), Western Michigan University (WMU), and Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle). This research is one of the major projects conducted by the NTRCI in its role as a University Transportation Center (UTC) for the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA), an agency within the Department of Transportation (DOT). This research also involved, via subcontract, Volvo Trucks North America, Inc., Clemson University and the Transportation Research Center, Inc. (TRC). This work, entitled Heavy Truck Rollover Characterization-Phase-A, addresses truck rollover issues dealing with a tractor and flatbed-trailer, and follows similar work that was conducted by NTRCI on a tractor-van-trailer in 2004-2005.
