Advanced design of hulls, machinery, and auxiliary equipment require more knowledge about materials than is readily available to most designers. Modern computer technology offers an opportunity to overcome such problems. A system of logic for a computerized system for material selection has been developed with the necessary systems analysis for the programming of the logic. The system of logic is expanded into a demonstration program for a terminal-oriented computer system, and typical examples of expected usage are given to show the capabilities of the system. (Author)
