The purpose of this study was to describe and classify the various types of road edge detail in use, to comment on materials, design, construction methods and maintenance and to make recommendations about the different types of edge detail used on the various types of roads in the UK. The relative costs of various edge details were tabulated and drawings of recommended details were included.
