The report describes standardized methods for analyzing ground flotation characteristics for aircraft of various designs based on the type of airfield construction. The method proposed for analyzing flexible pavements is an adaptation of the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) method. The analysis for rigid pavements is based on equations developed by Mr. H. M. Westergaard. The methods for overlay pavements are based on Air Force Manuals 88-24 and 88-6. The methods described were applied in an analysis of the KC-135 aircraft to illustrate the techniques. These methods can be applied to any aircraft to determine its flotation characteristics in relation to a given type runway. (Author)
